Catoosa County, GA Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Section 5.03.03 of the Unified Development Code, "Yard Sales," restricts the use to residential and agricultural zoning districts and limits any one sale to a single weekend, defined as Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday. The same section caps frequency directly: no more than one such sale can be held at the same address within any three months, so a household cannot string together back-to-back weekend sales or run one every month. Outdoor display of sale items is only permitted for the duration of the sale itself, not left out before or after, and the county draws a firm line between a yard sale and a resale business: Section 5.03.03(E) bars selling inventory that was purchased, received on consignment, or received by donation with the intent to resell, and Section 5.03.03(F) states that yard sales are not allowed to be run as a home occupation at all, closing off any argument that a frequent seller qualifies under the separate home-occupation rules in Section 5.02.02.

On-street parking generated by the sale cannot block or interfere with vehicular circulation, and any signs for the sale still have to meet Section 5.05.00's sign standards, including the temporary sign rule that limits yard sale signage to one sign per parcel, two square feet in area, and posting only from 3:00 p.m. the Thursday before the sale to 7:00 a.m. the following Monday.
