Full Breakdown
The county's Consumer Protection Code doesn't require a secondhand dealer license for garage, yard, estate or moving sales, but the exemption applies only if the sale is on residential property, the seller owns or is authorized to sell the items, the sale runs no more than 96 consecutive hours, no more than four sales happen in any 12-month period, and nothing offered was bought for resale or on consignment. Exceeding any condition removes the exemption.
Violations & Fines
Running a garage sale longer than 96 hours, holding a fifth sale within 12 months, or reselling items bought for resale steps outside the exemption and requires a secondhand dealer license.
