Nashville, TN Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

Metro Nashville's zoning code treats a garage sale as a residential accessory use and limits how often and how long one may run, rather than setting clock hours. Under Metropolitan Code of Laws § 17.16.250.C.3, a residence may hold a maximum of two garage sale events per calendar year, and each event may run one, two, or at most three days. The sale must be held on the property the seller occupies as a residence, and consignment sales, selling someone else's property for a fee or share of proceeds, are barred under the neighboring subsection. A licensed auctioneer's sale of a decedent's estate does not count toward the two-event cap.
