Unincorporated Riverside County generally does not require a specific permit or registration for occasional residential garage, yard, or estate sales. Ordinance No. 348 (Zoning) allows incidental residential sales as long as they remain non-commercial in character, limited in frequency, and do not create nuisance conditions. Sales must be conducted by the resident on their own property, feature only household items belonging to the household, and not involve purchased resale inventory. Sales that exceed frequency limits, occupy more than the residential premises, or advertise commercial inventory are reclassified as home-occupation businesses requiring Home Occupation Permits and potentially a business license. Signs advertising garage sales must comply with Ordinance No. 348 sign standards — typically limited to one on-site sign under 6 square feet, no off-site signs in the public right-of-way.
