Schaumburg does not require a permit for residential garage sales but limits the number of sales per year. Sales must comply with time, duration, and signage restrictions.
The Village of Schaumburg allows residential garage sales without a formal permit. However, households are limited to a maximum of two garage sales per calendar year. Each sale may last up to three consecutive days. All items must be displayed on the property and not encroach onto sidewalks, parkways, or the public right-of-way. Sales should be conducted during reasonable daytime hours, generally between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. No commercial merchandise may be sold. Temporary directional signs may be placed on the homeowner's own property but not on utility poles, street signs, Village property, or other properties without permission. All signs must be removed immediately after the sale concludes. The Village encourages neighborhood-wide garage sale events coordinated through homeowner associations.
Code enforcement warning for exceeding annual limits or improper signage. Fines for repeated violations or selling commercial merchandise.
