Holiday Decorations

Holiday lights, inflatables, lawn ornaments, and how long you can leave them up.

Almost no city regulates holiday decorations directly, and the codes mostly say so by exemption: seasonal displays are excused from sign permits, occasionally with a time window attached. The famous December display that draws traffic for blocks gets handled, if at all, under general nuisance and lighting rules rather than anything written for the occasion.

When a rule does exist it is usually about duration, the decoration that never comes down, and even then enforcement is complaint-driven. "There is no rule" is the accurate answer in most places, and worth saying plainly.
