Gordon County, GA Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Section 5.01.02 of the Gordon County, Georgia Unified Land Development Code controls how much traffic a home occupation can bring to a residential street in unincorporated Gordon County. The direct time limit is in subsection (L): no business involving on-site visits by customers shall be conducted between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. That leaves 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. as the window for client appointments, sales visits or pickups.

The section caps traffic mainly by limiting who works at the site and how large the operation can be. Under subsection (B), employees are limited to the residents of the dwelling, so no outside staff can arrive to work. Subsection (K) allows up to two (2) commercial vehicles in connection with the home occupation, parked only in the rear yard on a paved surface. Section 5.01.01(B) caps instruction or teaching at no more than two (2) students at any one time and limits personal services such as a barber or beauty shop, nail technician or tailoring to one (1) station, which limits how many clients are on site at once. Day care is listed for six (6) or fewer children.

Section 5.01.02 contains no numeric cap on the number of customers per day. Instead, subsection (H) prohibits any nuisance to the surrounding neighborhood, including machinery or equipment that produces noise, smoke, odor, vibration or electrical interference, instruction or teaching of performing arts such as voice or music, or any other objectionable condition beyond the property line. Subsection (F) bars products for sale or use from being visible from the street or adjacent properties, subsection (C) requires the use to be clearly incidental to the residential use, and subsection (G) limits it to thirty (30) percent of one (1) floor of the dwelling. Section 5.03.07 adds that yard and garage sales cannot be run as a home occupation.
