Home businesses in unincorporated Nevada County are limited to six business-related round trips per day, confined to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with all business parking provided on site. Educational tutoring gets a limited exception, and permit-exempt home businesses may not generate any customer traffic.
Nevada County Code Section 12.03.110(B)(7) caps business-related vehicle trips at six round trips per day and restricts them to the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Two exceptions apply to educational tutoring: trips may be averaged to allow a maximum of 36 trips over the six-day Monday-through-Saturday period, and hours may extend to 9:00 p.m. if no more than one business-related vehicle is parked on site at any time after 5:00 p.m. Section 12.03.110(B)(8) requires all parking for the business to be provided on site. Home businesses exempt from the Administrative Development Permit requirement (in-home offices and arts-and-crafts fabrication within the residence) may not generate customer traffic at all under Section 12.03.110(B)(2). Equipment used by the business may not generate noise above the standards of Section 12.04.070 or off-site detectable vibration, glare, fumes, odors, or electrical interference.
Exceeding the six-round-trip daily limit, receiving business traffic outside 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, or generating customer traffic from a permit-exempt home business violates Section 12.03.110 and can result in administrative citations, infraction or misdemeanor citations, permit revocation under Section 12.05.110, and nuisance abatement by the Code Compliance Division.
