Pembroke Pines requires a city license for family home day care under Code Section 115.15(D). Operators caring for children from two or more unrelated families must apply. State licensing through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is also required. Background screenings and safety inspections are mandatory. Large family child care homes have additional requirements.
Under Pembroke Pines Code Section 115.15(D), a city license is required for all family home day care operations providing care for children from at least two unrelated families. Operators must also obtain a license from the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) under FL Statute 402. Family child care homes may serve up to a specified number of children based on the license type. Background screening (Level 2) through DCF is mandatory for all household members over age 12. The home must pass fire, health, and safety inspections. Large family child care homes (serving more children) require additional staffing and may have stricter zoning requirements under the LDC.
Operating without required licenses is a violation of city code and state law. DCF may revoke licenses for safety violations.
