Annapolis Code prohibits external signage for home-based businesses in residential zones. No sign, name plate, or commercial identifier may be posted on the building exterior, yard, or mailbox indicating a business operation. In the Annapolis Historic District, any signage (including for permitted commercial uses) requires Historic Preservation Commission review and approval for size, design, materials, and lighting. Even small address plaques with business names require HPC approval in the Historic District. Violations are reported to code enforcement by neighbors.
Unauthorized residential zone business signage: $100/day. Historic District sign without HPC approval: $250/day and removal order.
