A home occupation in unincorporated Boulder County may display only a small identification sign. The Land Use Code limits it to a non-illuminated sign of two square feet or less, and the business must produce no noise, light, odor, or other effect noticeable beyond the property line.
The Boulder County Land Use Code allows a home occupation only if it "Has signage limited to a non-illuminated identification sign two square feet or less in size." The activity must also not "result in noise or vibration, light, odor, dust, smoke, or other air pollution noticeable at or beyond the property line," and must remain clearly subordinate to the residence. In effect there can be no illuminated, flashing, or large commercial signage advertising the business at a county home. Inside incorporated cities, the city's sign code governs instead.
An illuminated or oversized business sign is a Land Use Code violation and can trigger a notice of violation requiring removal of the non-conforming signage.
