The City-Parish Unified Development Code is blunt about home occupation signs: no signage may be erected. Nothing may be done to make the building appear as anything other than a dwelling, so exterior business advertising for a home occupation is prohibited.
Under UDC Section 9.4.5, which governs home occupations parish-wide, two of the mandatory conditions directly restrict outward appearance: no signage shall be erected, and nothing shall be done to make the building appear in any way as anything but a dwelling. Together these bar any yard sign, window sign, or facade lettering advertising a home-based business. Any signage for a legitimate commercial use would require the property to be in a commercial zoning district under the UDC sign chapter rather than operating as a home occupation.
Erecting a home-business sign violates the Section 9.4.5 conditions and is subject to code enforcement, including removal orders and penalties.
