Fort Worth Zoning Sec. 5.116.A prohibits exterior signs and any visible evidence of a home occupation from the street. No on-premises commercial signs are allowed for businesses operated from a residential dwelling.
Sec. 5.116.A requires that all activities related to a home occupation be invisible from the street. The city interprets this to bar exterior signage, window signs, illuminated lettering, and outdoor displays advertising the business at a residential property. Vehicles with business lettering that are used for the occupation are allowed only if they are personal-use vehicles parked in compliance with the residential parking ordinance (Sec. 22-160). Permanent commercial signs are reserved for properties in nonresidential zoning districts under the broader sign regulations in Sec. 4.804.
Installing or displaying a sign for a home occupation is a zoning violation under Sec. 5.116.A and the sign code, enforced as a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to $500 per day. The owner will be required to remove the sign and may face escalating fines for noncompliance.
