A Forsyth County home occupation may display only one occupancy sign no larger than 144 square inches (one square foot). There may be no salesroom or display window, and neon or illuminated signs visible from outside the building are prohibited.
UDO Section B.2-6.4(D)(3)(g) limits home-occupation signage to a single occupancy sign not more than 144 square inches in area. The ordinance also bars any salesroom or display window (subsection (f)) and prohibits neon or illuminated signs visible from the building exterior, including signs inside the building. More broadly, subsection (d) requires that no exterior evidence of the home occupation be permitted and that the exterior character of the dwelling not be changed. These rules keep home businesses visually indistinguishable from ordinary residences. Inside incorporated towns, that town's sign ordinance applies instead of the county UDO.
An oversized, illuminated, or unauthorized home-occupation sign is a UDO violation; the Director of Inspections may revoke the zoning permit if any prescribed condition, including signage, is not met.
