A home occupation in unincorporated Ada County is allowed one home sign, which must comply with the county sign standards in Chapter 4, Article I. Any off-premises or off-site signage must be separately approved under those same standards.
Under Ada County Code 8-5-3-54, home-occupation signage is deliberately limited to preserve residential character. One on-site home sign is permitted and must meet the dimensional and placement rules in Title 8, Chapter 4, Article I (signs). Off-site or off-premises advertising signs are not automatically allowed and require separate sign approval. Illuminated or oversized commercial signage typical of a storefront is not permitted for a home occupation.
Unpermitted or non-compliant signs are a sign-code violation; the county can order removal and cite the property owner.
