Delaware County sets no sign rule for home businesses. Signage is governed by your municipality's zoning ordinance under the MPC. State law's 'no-impact home-based business' allows no outside appearance of a business, including signs or lights.
There is no county sign ordinance for home occupations; each Delaware County municipality regulates business and home-occupation signs through its zoning code under the Municipalities Planning Code. Under MPC Section 107, a protected no-impact home-based business may have 'no outside appearance of a business use, including, but not limited to, parking, signs or lights.' Municipalities that permit larger home occupations often cap any sign to roughly one to two square feet, non-illuminated, and wall-mounted. Some codes, such as Upper Darby, prohibit signs identifying an in-home child-care facility.
An unpermitted or oversized home-business sign is a municipal zoning violation subject to removal orders and daily fines under the local ordinance.
