In unincorporated Weld County, a home business is an accessory use allowed in Agricultural, Estate, and Residential zone districts. In residential zones it must be conducted entirely indoors with no outdoor activity, and is capped at five on-site customers or nonresident employees at a time.
Weld County Code Chapter 23, Division 13 governs home businesses on unincorporated land. In Residential zones the use must be conducted entirely indoors and no outdoor activity is allowed; Agricultural and Estate zones allow limited outdoor activity only on lots of at least one acre, often behind a six-foot opaque screening fence. Residential zones cap on-site customers, clients, patients, students, or nonresident employees at five at any one time (ten in A and E zones). Hours for public access are limited to 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Restaurants, kennels, contractor's shops, and vehicle repair are prohibited as home businesses. Home-rule cities apply their own zoning.
Operating a business that exceeds these limits, or a prohibited use, is a zoning violation and the home business permit may be revoked by the Director of Planning Services.
