Section 18-20 of the Code of Ordinances (Article II, Weeds and Debris) makes it unlawful to let uncultivated vegetation grow above twelve inches on improved lots inside Tyler or within 5,000 feet of the city limits. Ornamental grasses and trees are exempt, and regularly pruned flowers and shrubs are a defense to prosecution. Enforcement runs through the Code Enforcement Department and the Tyler Police. If an owner ignores notice, the city clears the lot and assesses actual expenses plus a penalty fee under Sec. 18-21; repeat violations on the same lot within one year can be abated with no further notice. Amended by Ord. No. 0-2026-25 (July 8, 2026).
