Under Article II of Chapter 18, weeds, grass, and other uncultivated vegetation may not exceed twelve inches on improved lots inside Tyler or within 5,000 feet of the city limits. Improved-but-vacant lots must be kept at or below twelve inches within 100 feet of their perimeter. The Code Enforcement Department serves notice by personal service or certified mail to the owner's address on file at the Smith County Appraisal District. If the owner does not comply, the city performs the cleanup and assesses actual expenses plus a penalty fee equal to its normal cleanup cost (Sec. 18-21 and 18-24). A single notice can cover repeat violations on the same lot for one year.
