Tyler, TX Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Under Tyler City Code Sec. 10-455, all signs advertising a garage sale must be posted only on the premises where the sale is held and placed so they do not impair or obstruct traffic; no sign permit is required. Off-premises directional signs on corners, utility poles, or in the public right-of-way are not allowed. The temporary-sign rules in Sec. 10-416 likewise require signs to sit on the property being advertised, not in the right-of-way. A residence may hold no more than one garage sale in any six-month period, two per year, each lasting no more than three consecutive days unless the planning director grants a temporary use permit.
