Section 154.04(C)5 requires at least fifty percent of all required trees to be native species, and 154.04(D) requires at least twenty-five percent of all shrubs to be native. Category 1 species from the Exotic Plant Pest Council's "Florida's Most Invasive Species" list cannot be used to meet the requirement at all. These material standards attach to the general landscaping rules in 154.03(C), which apply to commercial, multi-family, institutional, industrial and PUD sites and expressly do not apply to platted single-family homes. A single-family or townhouse lot instead owes trees by lot size under 154.03(A), chosen from the city's Suggested Tree List. Chapter 44 separately bans nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer citywide from June 1 through September 30.
