Nampa, ID Landscaping Rules: Tree Removal & Heritage Trees (2026)

Nampa City Code § 5-2-6(A) makes it unlawful for an owner to remove a right-of-way ("street") tree without a permit from the city forester, who decides whether removal is warranted and supervises the work at the owner's sole expense. Removed mature right-of-way trees generally must be replaced in-kind, subject to the forester's discretion on spacing and site conditions. By contrast, § 5-2-7(B) lists "removal or pruning of trees located on the owner's private real property" as routine owner responsibility requiring no permit, though nuisance and pest-control provisions in §§ 5-2-20 through 5-2-22 still reach private trees that threaten public trees, infrastructure, or safety.
