Bridgeport, CT Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

Chapter 8.72 of the Bridgeport Municipal Code defines obnoxious weeds as ragweed, goldenrod, wild timothy, poison ivy, poison sumac, and any other uncultivated plant that irritates skin or triggers pollen allergies, and makes every landowner responsible for keeping property clear of them. The code sets no separate inch-based height cap for ordinary lawn grass. If weeds aren't cleared, the director of health and social services can send a written removal order; ignoring it lets the city cut the weeds itself and recover the cost, plus interest, on the owner's tax bill.
