The Ewa Plain still contains scattered vacant parcels between Gentry villages, Hoakalei, and Ocean Pointe phases. ROH Sec. 16A-2.1 and following sections give the city authority to treat tall weeds and brush as a public nuisance where they raise fire risk, harbor rodents, or obstruct roadways and drainage channels along the Ewa coastal plain. The Department of Planning and Permitting mails a compliance notice to the recorded owner giving 30 days to cut and remove vegetation. If the owner does not act, city or contracted crews may enter the lot, clear it, and charge the owner for the abatement as a recoverable cost or lien.
After 30 days, city abatement crews may enter the Ewa Gentry lot, cut vegetation, and bill the owner. Unpaid charges attach as a lien on the property.
