Full Breakdown

Sec. 97-28 sets a 12-inch limit on weeds, grass or noxious growth within the city limits and in occupied subdivisions or neighborhoods in the unincorporated parish, and a 24-inch limit on property outside those occupied areas. Sec. 97-27 confirms the article covers both the City of Lafayette and the unincorporated parish under LCPG jurisdiction. Recorded agricultural land is exempt except for a 50-foot buffer along boundaries next to occupied subdivisions, streets or neighborhoods, where the tighter limit still applies. This chapter governs only LCPG territory, not Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville or Milton.

Violations & Fines

After notice by mail or two-day publication, LCPG can enter and cut the growth; the owner is billed the contractor cost plus a $250 administrative fee added to the property tax bill, secured by a lien.
