Kootenai County, ID Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

Idaho Code 22-2407 states it is the duty and responsibility of all landowners to control noxious weeds on their land, and that the cost of control is the landowner's obligation. Kootenai County's Noxious Weed Control office (Idaho Code 22-2405 mission) inspects unincorporated county lands, educates owners, maps infestations, and responds to complaints. Under the county's noxious-weed chapter, the cost of any control on private land is at the owner's expense; if unpaid for 60 days or longer the amount becomes a lien on the property, collectible like delinquent taxes, and commissioners may sue for unpaid charges. This is separate from ordinary tall-grass complaints, which are a city matter.
