44 of the Merced Municipal Code governs where bicycles may travel and how they must be parked. 030 lets a registered bicycle use every city street, public highway, and designated bicycle trail, and it opens most sidewalks to bicycle traffic too, except for eight signed downtown blocks: Main Street from G to V Street, 18th Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Way to N Street, I Street from 16th to 18th Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Way from 16th to 18th Street, K Street from 16th to 18th Street, Canal Street from 16th to 18th Street, M Street from 16th to 20th Street, and N Street from 16th to 18th Street.

070 requires a rider to yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and give an audible signal before overtaking one, and to dismount and walk through any sidewalk intersection where hedges, bushes, or buildings block the operator's view. 050 caps bicycle speed at whatever is reasonable and prudent under the conditions then existing, and never above the prima facie vehicle speed limit for that street. 080, the parking rule, prohibits leaving a bicycle on any public street, sidewalk, bicycle lane, or bicycle path in a way that impedes pedestrian traffic, covering bikes left blocking a marked bike lane as well as sidewalk clutter. 040 unless a police officer directs otherwise.
