Dayton, OH Mobility & Curb Rules: E-Bike Classes (2026)

(A)Bicycles and electric transportation devices shall not be operated:(1)On sidewalks and sidewalk areas of highways of the city except when immediately leaving or accessing a parking location, unless established by the traffic engineer as a sidewalk bike path in accord with § 70.11, provided the bikeway is properly signed;(2)On publicly held or owned lands not open as streets or highways unless established as a bike trail by the traffic engineer in accord with the provisions of § 70.11;(3)On publicly held or owned lands not open as streets or highways or as vehicle parking areas unless permitted by the Director of the department in charge of such lands and then only on that part designated for general vehicle or specifically for bicycle or electric transportation device use; and/or,(4)On closed streets and highways.(B)The provisions of divisions (A)(1), (A)(2), and (A)(3) of this section shall not apply to children under the age of fourteen years when operating a bicycle or an electric transportation device on a sidewalk. This exclusion does not extend to motorized bicycles or class 3 electric bicycles.(C)The provisions of this section shall not apply to Police Department personnel in the performance of their duties, and other persons trained by the City Police Department and authorized by the Chief of Police to operate a non-motorized bicycle or an electric transportation device on city sidewalks or other publicly-owned property.
