Fort Worth, TX Mobility & Curb Rules: TNC Pickup Zones (2026)

Fort Worth regulates rideshare and taxi curbside activity through two linked provisions of Chapter 22 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic). Section 22-172 authorizes the traffic engineer to determine and designate curb spaces for exclusive use as bus stops, taxicab stands, and passenger and commercial loading zones, marking them with signs, and every such designation must be described in writing or by map and filed with the city secretary under § 22-173. Once a curb space is marked as a passenger loading zone, defined in § 22-1 as 'a space or section of the curb set aside for the exclusive use of loading and unloading of persons,' § 22-158 makes it unlawful for any driver, including a transportation network company or vehicle for hire driver operating under Chapter 34, Article VI, to stop, stand or park there longer than five minutes, and use is limited to expeditious loading or unloading of passengers.

Leaving a vehicle unattended in a marked passenger loading zone is unlawful at any time, with no time-limit grace period. daily except where otherwise posted, Sundays, or other days the city council designates, so overnight and Sunday curb use follows whatever signage is actually posted at that location. Vehicle for hire operators, which under § 34-201 expressly includes drivers using a digital network or application, must separately hold a city operating license before picking up passengers anywhere in Fort Worth.
