Full Breakdown

Palm Beach County's vehicle-for-hire ordinance carves TNC companies like Uber and Lyft out of nearly every local licensing, decal, and inspection requirement that applies to taxis and limos. The one carve-back: TNC drivers and companies must still comply with Palm Beach County Airport Rules and Regulations and the Port of Palm Beach Rules and Regulations covering pickup fees and the designation of staging and pickup locations, authority the county draws from Fla. Stat. § 627.748(15). In practice that means Uber and Lyft pickups at Palm Beach International Airport and the Port of Palm Beach are confined to the curbside zones and staging lots those facilities designate, even though the county's broader for-hire rules don't otherwise touch TNCs.

Violations & Fines

Ignoring PBIA or Port of Palm Beach staging and pickup-zone rules can get a TNC driver cited, denied curb access, or removed by Airports Department or Port security.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Uber and Lyft need a Palm Beach County business permit?
No. TNCs are exempt from the county's vehicle-for-hire licensing under § 19-214(a)(5), unlike taxis and limos.
Where can I get picked up by Uber or Lyft at PBIA?
Only at the curbside zones and staging areas set by the Airport Rules and Regulations; other spots risk a citation.
