Full Breakdown

Hemet City Code § 6-13 prohibits any place of entertainment or nightclub from allowing entertainment to be visible or plainly audible from a public street or sidewalk. The only exception covers doors opening for patrons entering or exiting, and only for periods under one minute. The rule sits inside Chapter 6's dance-and-entertainment permit scheme, where the chief of police approves permits and can deny, suspend, or revoke one for a violation. A nightclub whose music or crowd noise spills audibly onto the sidewalk is violating this section regardless of decibel level: the standard is audibility from outside, not a measured limit.

Violations & Fines

Violating § 6-13 is grounds for permit denial, suspension, or revocation under § 6-24, on top of any penalty the city imposes for ordinance violations enforced by the police department.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Hemet have a decibel limit for bar noise?
No. Section 6-13 bars any entertainment that is visible or plainly audible from a public street or sidewalk: it's an audibility standard, not a measured decibel threshold.
Can a nightclub door open during a show?
Yes, briefly. The code exempts sound escaping through a door for patrons entering or exiting, but only for periods under one minute.
