Dallas City Code Chapter 30 limits construction-equipment noise to 75 dBA at the property line of any residential receiver between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with construction outside those hours requiring a noise variance from the Building Official.
Chapter 30 of the Dallas City Code sets the citywide noise standard. Construction activity is permitted from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is presumptively prohibited on Sundays and legal holidays. During permitted hours, equipment must not exceed 75 dBA measured at the property line of the nearest residential receiver. Equipment includes excavators, compactors, jackhammers, pile drivers, generators, and concrete saws. Contractors must use mufflers, sound blankets, and best-available control technology. Variances for night work are issued by the Building Official only for emergency utility, transportation, or public-safety projects. Dallas Code Compliance and Dallas Police share enforcement.
Exceeding 75 dBA at residential property line: citation up to $500 per day. Working outside 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. without variance: separate violation. Repeat or continuing violations may halt work via Building Official stop-work order.
