Full Breakdown

Dallas Development Code Section 51A-4.217 requires that home occupations have no external evidence of the business visible from outside the dwelling. This effectively prohibits business signs, advertising banners, or commercial displays on residential properties. Section 51A-7.402 governs signs in non-business zoning districts and generally restricts commercial signage in residential areas. For occasional sales (garage sales), a person may place no more than one sign, not to exceed 2 square feet in effective area, upon the lot where the sale is taking place. No off-premise advertising signs are permitted in residential zones for home businesses.

Violations & Fines

Unauthorized commercial signage in residential districts is a code violation. Signs may be ordered removed. Fines apply for non-compliance.
