Dallas home occupations under Section 51A-4.217 must not generate traffic beyond what is customary for a residential neighborhood. The business must remain subordinate to the residential use of the property.
Section 51A-4.217 requires home occupations to be customarily incidental to the main residential use. The home occupation must not generate traffic, noise, parking demand, or other impacts that differ from the customary character of a residential neighborhood. Customer visits must not create a commercial traffic pattern. Delivery and pickup by commercial vehicles should be limited to what is typical for residential use. No employees other than residents of the dwelling should report to work at the location. Businesses requiring frequent customer visits, such as retail shops or salons with walk-in traffic, may not qualify as home occupations. The residential character of the property must be maintained at all times.
Home businesses generating excessive traffic may receive Code Compliance citations. Continued violations may result in orders to cease the business activity.
