Dallas Development Code Section 51A-4.217 allows home occupations as accessory uses in residential districts. The home occupation may not occupy more than 25% or 400 square feet of the main structure, whichever is less.
Section 51A-4.217 of the Dallas Development Code regulates home occupations as accessory uses. An accessory use must be customarily incidental to the main residential use and located on the same lot. Home occupations may not occupy more than 25% or 400 square feet of the total floor area of the main structure, whichever is less. The home occupation must not change the residential character of the property. No external evidence of the business may be visible from outside. Storage of materials or equipment outside the dwelling is prohibited. The business may not generate traffic, noise, or other impacts that differ from what is customary in a residential neighborhood. An accessory use is permitted in any district where the main residential use is permitted.
Operating a home business that exceeds zoning restrictions may result in Code Compliance citations and orders to cease the business activity. Fines apply for continued violations.
