Annapolis, MD Noise from Specific Sources: HVAC & Mechanical Noise (2026)

Under the City's Mechanical Code, the Code Official may direct sound testing of any installed exterior mechanical equipment: the provision that reaches HVAC condensers, heat pumps and similar units. Testing must be performed by a sound testing professional who supplies written certified results, and the equipment itself is required to meet or exceed Maryland State noise requirements as a floor. The Director of Planning and Zoning enforces the Mechanical Code chapter this sits in. Annapolis's general noise ordinance in Chapter 11.12 has no separate HVAC decibel carve-out, so this mechanical-code testing duty is the operative local rule for equipment noise.
