Oak Park is not located directly under major airport flight paths and does not have its own local airport. The Village does not maintain separate aircraft noise ordinances. O'Hare International Airport is approximately 12 miles north, and occasional aircraft noise from O'Hare approaches may be heard. The Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics and the FAA handle aircraft noise complaints at the federal level.
Oak Park does not fall within the O'Hare Airport Noise Compatibility Zone and is generally outside the most impacted flight corridors. Midway Airport is approximately 10 miles southeast. While aircraft from both airports may occasionally be heard, Oak Park has not adopted local aircraft noise regulations because the Village lacks jurisdiction over federal airspace. Residents experiencing persistent aircraft noise should file complaints with the Chicago Department of Aviation O'Hare Noise Hotline or the FAA. The O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission (ONCC) includes representatives from surrounding communities, though Oak Park is not a member municipality. The Village has no restrictions on drone operation beyond those imposed by FAA regulations (Part 107).
No local enforcement mechanism exists for aircraft noise. Complaints should be directed to the Chicago Department of Aviation at (800) 435-9569 for O'Hare or (773) 838-0756 for Midway.
