Amplified music rules in East Baton Rouge Parish, LA — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
Sec. 12:101 bans playing any radio, stereo, instrument or sound device, from a stationary location or a vehicle, at a volume that disturbs the peace, quiet, comfort or repose of nearby residences or public places.
Amplified music is a per se loud and raucous noise under Sec. 12:101. Subsection (2) covers a stationary source such as a home stereo or PA; subsection (3) covers sound from a vehicle. In each case the standard is whether the volume disturbs the peace, quiet, comfort or repose of persons in any dwelling, other residence, other vehicle, or public place. A separate provision measures vehicle sound systems against an 85-decibel threshold audible more than 25 feet away. Public loudspeakers and amplifiers have their own limits under Sec. 12:103.
Misdemeanor under Sec. 12:104: $200-$500 fine, up to 30 days jail, or both.
