Sec. 26-25(b) of the city's noise ordinance governs amplified sound at permitted special activities: "During a special activity, noise sources including, but not limited to, sound amplification of music and entertainment must stop at 11:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 12:00 midnight, Friday and Saturday." The city's special activity permit program, administered under chapter 2, article X, can extend those cutoff hours case by case based on factors like the event's location and the character of the surrounding land use. Even before the cutoff, Table 2's footnote caps amplified sound during a special activity at 65 dB(A) at the event boundary, and that level cannot exceed the decibel limit that applies to whatever land use category sits adjacent to the event; the code's own example: a commercial-area event capped at 65 dB(A) at its boundary must drop to 55 dB(A) at the property line of an adjoining residential (category B) lot after 10:00 p.m.

Outside the special-activity-permit setting, amplified music is instead governed by the general Table 2 sound-level limits described in the site's decibel-limits ordinance for this city, so the 11:00 p.m./midnight cutoff specifically applies to permitted events, not to a homeowner's stereo. A pure-tone amplified sound source (a sustained note rather than broadband music) triggers a further 5 dB(A) reduction in the applicable Table 2 limit under Sec. 26-25(d).
