Barking dog rules in Nashville, TN β also called nuisance dog, dog noise, or excessive barking ordinances β define when a barking dog becomes a code violation and how complaints are handled.
Nashville prohibits dogs from disturbing neighbors under Title 8 (Animals) and Title 9 (Noise). Persistent barking constitutes a nuisance and is enforceable by Metro Animal Care and Control.
Under Metro Code Title 8, dogs creating excessive noise that disturbs neighbors are subject to nuisance complaints handled by Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC). Noises plainly audible from a neighboring property boundary can also be cited under the Title 9 general noise ordinance. After amendments in 2023, owners must have physical control of animals off-property. Repeated barking complaints can result in animal impoundment after escalating violations: $50 fine per leash law violation; after a 5th violation the animal may be impounded.
Noise complaint: $50β$500. Leash/control violations: $50 per animal. Impoundment possible after repeated violations.
