Construction hours in Jefferson Parish, LA — sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances — set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Jefferson Parish exempts domestic power tools, lawnmowers, and similar equipment from the noise limits when properly muffled and used roughly 7 a.m.–9 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and 8 a.m.–9 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.
The Jefferson Parish noise ordinance (Sec. 20-102) grants time-limited exemptions for ordinary domestic activity. Domestic power tools, lawnmowers, garden equipment, and similar devices are permitted when muffled and in good repair during roughly 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sundays and legal holidays. Outside those windows, construction and yard noise is not exempt and can be cited as a violation. These exemptions apply in the unincorporated parish, including Metairie; incorporated cities are governed by their own construction-hour rules.
Work outside the exempt hours loses the exemption and is subject to Sec. 20-102 misdemeanor penalties enforced by parish code compliance.
