Prince George's County does not ban leaf blowers or set a special decibel cap for them. Lawn-care equipment is exempt from the objective noise limits when used during daytime hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and maintained per manufacturer specifications.
Under County Code § 19-123(b)(2), lawn care and snow removal equipment used between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications is exempt from the Subtitle 19 noise limits. Household tools and portable appliances in normal daytime use are similarly exempt. This means gas and electric leaf blowers are generally permitted during daytime hours without triggering the decibel table. Outside those hours, or if equipment is poorly maintained or used unreasonably, blower noise can still be treated as a noise disturbance. Some incorporated cities in the county (for example College Park) address property-maintenance noise, including leaf blowing, within their own daytime windows, so check local city rules.
Using a leaf blower outside the daytime exemption window, or in a way that creates a noise disturbance, can result in a civil citation or misdemeanor fine up to $1,000 for a first offense.
