Iron County, UT Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Section 8.20.060(E) lists eight exemptions from the county's noise nuisance provisions, and item 8 covers landscaping equipment: sounds from equipment used to maintain landscaping on residential property on a periodic basis, including lawnmowers, leaf blowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and similar types of equipment, are exempt when used between 7 a.m. and sunset. That window ties the exemption to daylight hours rather than a fixed clock time, so it shifts with the season. Running the same equipment before 7 a.m. or after sunset removes the exemption and exposes the operator to the general nuisance standard in subsection A and the equipment-specific prima facie tests in subsection D, including the 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. plainly-audible-at-20-feet rule that otherwise governs sound-producing devices.

The exemption is limited to periodic residential landscaping maintenance; it does not on its own cover commercial landscaping operations running heavier equipment outside those categories, which would fall back on the general reasonable-person standard in subsection A and the nine factors in subsection C.
