Under § 94.01 of the Hendricks County Code of Ordinances, "any device or otherwise, any unreasonably loud, disturbing, or unnecessary noise; or any noise of a character, intensity, or duration as to be detrimental to the life, health, safety, peace, comfort, repose, or general welfare of any individual" is declared a nuisance, but the section itself limits when that classification applies: it is "only effective from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m." That means the same noise made at 3:00 p.m. is not actionable under this chapter, while identical noise at 11:00 p.m. is.

The County Sheriff is charged with enforcing Chapter 94 under § 94.04, so noise complaints in unincorporated Hendricks County go to the Sheriff's Office rather than a town police department or a county health inspector. Several activities are carved out of the nuisance definition entirely regardless of hour under § 94.02, including normal farm activity noise, permitted fireworks, authorized special events, school activities and related sporting events, normal construction noise, and customary residential activities such as lawn care. Because the quiet-hours rule sits inside the general nuisance chapter rather than a stand-alone noise ordinance, there is no decibel meter or measured limit; enforcement turns on whether the noise is unreasonable, disturbing, or detrimental to neighbors during the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. window, which the Sheriff's deputies assess on a complaint basis.
