Cayuga County, NY Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Cayuga County's parks ordinance, Chapter 206, does not set a decibel limit for vehicles; instead § 206-9F(11) bans operating 'any watercraft, wheeled vehicle, snowmobile, or other equipment' in a manner that either endangers people or property or creates 'an unreasonable noise or disturbance or annoyance to others' on property under the jurisdiction of the Cayuga County Parks and Trails Commission. The subsection groups vehicle noise with reckless operation, so a loud stereo, revving engine, unmuffled exhaust or aggressive engine-braking on a park road can be cited the same way as unsafe driving.

It sits inside § 206-9F, 'Disorderly conduct,' alongside item (8), which separately forbids 'any unreasonable noise, which tends to annoy others' from any source, and item (9), which controls burning objects. Chapter 206's separate traffic section, § 206-12, layers on its own vehicle rules for park roads, including posted speed limits and licensing requirements, but the noise standard itself comes from § 206-9F(11) and F(8). Because the ordinance applies 'within, upon and in the airspace above all property' under Commission jurisdiction (§ 206-3), the vehicle-noise ban reaches parking areas, boat launches and park roads alike, not just picnic grounds.
