Section 20-102 of the Jefferson Parish Code targets vehicle sound amplification. It is unlawful to operate a radio, stereo, sound amplifier, or similar device that produces or amplifies sound so as to create a noise disturbance at 50 feet when played in or on a motor vehicle on any public right-of-way or in any public space. Vehicle sound systems are commonly summarized as limited to about 85 decibels audible beyond 25 feet. The provision applies in the unincorporated parish, including Metairie; incorporated cities regulate their own vehicle noise.
First offense fine not less than $50, $100 for a second offense, and $250 for the third and each subsequent offense under Sec. 20-102.
