Fort Myers, FL Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

City code bars anyone operating or occupying a conveyance, vehicle, vessel, motorcycle, or bicycle on Fort Myers streets, alleys, or waterways from amplifying a radio, CD or tape player, musical instrument, or voice so it is audible 25 feet or more from the source (Sec. 54-197(b)(1)). A separate nuisance-noise provision requires every steam engine, motorboat, or motor vehicle exhaust to discharge through a muffler or device that effectively prevents loud or explosive noise, and separately bars operating a vehicle so as to create loud, unnecessary grating, grinding, or rattling noise (Sec. 54-196(6)-(7)). Neither section sets its own fine schedule, so violations fall under the Code's general penalty provision.
