In unincorporated Manatee County, amplified sound from a vehicle's radio or stereo that is 'plainly audible' at 50 feet is a violation. Ordinary motor-vehicle engine noise on public roads is exempt if it complies with Florida traffic law.
Section 2-21-33(5) exempts motor vehicles operating on public roads in compliance with Chapter 316 and § 403.415, Florida Statutes — but that exemption 'shall not apply to amplified sound produced by a radio, tape player, CD player, or other mechanical sound making device... plainly audible from fifty (50) feet from the source vehicle.' An officer judges audibility by ordinary hearing (no microphone/hearing aid), must have direct line of sight and hearing to the vehicle, and need not identify the song or words. Vehicle stereo violations are treated as itinerant, allowing immediate citation without a correction period.
Vehicle amplified-sound violations under § 2-21-33(5) carry a written warning first, then $100 second offense and $250 third+ within 365 days (§ 2-21-35(6)); immediate citation allowed (per se transient).
