Pembroke Pines enforces the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) adopted under FL Β§633.202, which incorporates NFPA 1 (Fire Code). NFPA 1 Β§10.10 / IFC Β§308.1.4 prohibits open-flame cooking and LP-gas grills on combustible balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction in buildings with 3+ dwelling units. Single-family backyard grilling is permitted; HOA covenants may add private restrictions.
Pembroke Pines fire code enforcement follows the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) adopted under FL Statute Β§633.202, which incorporates NFPA 1 (Fire Code) and references IFC requirements. Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue enforces the FFPC within the city, with mutual aid from Broward County and surrounding municipal departments. NFPA 1 Β§10.10 (commonly referenced as Β§10.10.6 in earlier editions) and IFC Β§308.1.4 prohibit the use of open-flame cooking devices, charcoal burners, or other open-flame appliances on combustible balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction in buildings with three or more dwelling units. Exemptions: (1) one- and two-family dwellings; (2) balconies served by automatic fire-suppression systems; (3) listed electric grills; (4) LP-gas grills containing no more than 1 lb of LP-gas (small camp-style units). LP-gas cylinder storage under NFPA 58 prohibits indoor storage of LP-gas cylinders larger than 1 lb β cylinders must be stored outdoors, upright, in a ventilated area at least 5 feet from any building opening. At single-family Pembroke Pines residences, normal backyard grilling is unrestricted by the FFPC; however, the master-planned HOA communities (Pembroke Falls, Pembroke Lakes, SilverLakes) often impose private rules about grill placement, screen-enclosure cooking, and propane-tank storage through their Chapter 720 declarations. During hurricane preparedness, residents should secure or remove propane tanks before a storm β flying tanks cause severe damage.
Use of prohibited grill on a multi-unit balcony: Pembroke Pines Fire Marshal citation, removal order. Building owners can be cited for tolerating known violations. LP-gas cylinder stored indoors: NFPA 58 violation with enforcement and removal. HOA violations: private fines per declaration.
