Ontario regulates outdoor lighting under OMC Chapter 9, requiring shielded fixtures and color temperature limits to reduce glare toward homes and aircraft paths at ONT International Airport.
Ontario Municipal Code Chapter 9 outdoor-lighting standards require all exterior luminaires on commercial, industrial, and multifamily properties to be full-cutoff shielded, directed downward, and designed to prevent glare on public streets and neighboring residential zones. Outdoor light sources should not exceed 3000K Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) for new installations to limit blue-wavelength skyglow. Parking-lot lighting in logistics and warehouse districts must be curfew-dimmed to 50 percent output between 11 PM and 5 AM when the facility is not operating at full staffing. Because Ontario International Airport is within City limits, the Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) additionally prohibits lighting that could interfere with pilot vision on approach or departure, including red aviation-signal-mimicking colors and high-intensity upward beams. Residential porch and security lighting is regulated only when directed beyond a property line and creating a documented nuisance. Code Enforcement responds to complaints at (909) 395-2025.
